Alison has spent the majority of her career in Public Health, initially as a Practitioner, before moving into Project Management of Nutrition and Physical Activity programmes in Blackburn, Wigan and Oldham. Alison spent time in the Lancashire and Cumbria Public Health Network Team working at a strategic level on obesity prevention and the Healthy Schools agendas, whilst completing her Master’s degree in public health nutrition. This was followed by several years as an NHS Public Health commissioner in North Lancashire working on the NHS Health Checks, Healthy Schools and community based physical activity and food and nutrition programmes.
In 2013 Alison became a Public Health Specialist in the Bradford Public Health team, responsible for a large portfolio of health improvement work which included commissioning of weight management services, breastfeeding support, HENRY and active travel programmes. Alison gained her PhD in 2018 which was on the development and evaluation of an obesity prevention programme for families with young children.
Following a short time back in the NHS, Alison joined the Public Health Team in Lancashire as the Specialist for Children’s Public Health and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at the County Council. This role included the commissioning of Health Visiting and School Nursing, oral health, breastfeeding support, NHS Health Checks and the Children and Family Wellbeing Service. Alison has recently moved across to the Blackburn Public Health Team to work on substance misuse, smoking and sexual health, leading the commissioning of several large contracts in some new areas of challenge.
