Dr Brendan Collins

I am a public health economist and policy analyst with experience at a senior level across the NHS, academia, local and national government, and as a consultant for UNICEF. I have also worked in Welsh Government where I was Head of Health Economics, Advanced Analytics and Policy Modelling, in the Science Evidence Advice Division. Much of my work focuses on food policy including food security, food taxes and subsidies, health inequalities, quality of life, wellbeing, CVD, cancer, infectious diseases including COVID-19, and substance use, both in the UK and globally.

I joined the Health Equalities Group as a trustee because I am passionate about the role of policy interventions in improving health and reducing inequalities. HEG has consistently delivered exceptional work in these areas, from their early initiatives as Heart of Mersey Healthy Stadia to their current programmes, including Food Active and Healthy Stadia.

Outside of work, I enjoy playing music and have performed with various bands in Liverpool and Manchester over the years. I also love spending time with my two young children and enjoy cooking in my spare time.
