As the Executive Director of Health Equalities Group (HEG), I work closely with our senior leadership team and trustees to set the strategic direction of the charity, ensuring that our organisation remains sustainable and delivers on its core charitable objectives. I also oversee the delivery of several key programmes, including the Strategic Obesity Project for Cheshire & Merseyside, the NHS Prevention Pledge, and our Healthy Stadia programme.
I have been with HEG since 2008, starting as the lead for our Healthy Stadia programme and physical activity initiatives, before stepping into the role of Executive Director in 2017. My early career was rooted in academia, where I engaged in doctoral and post-doctoral research and lecturing. I hold a PhD in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of Warwick, awarded in 2001.
Working at HEG over the past 16 years has been an incredible journey. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with dedicated colleagues and partners across the UK and Europe, witnessing firsthand the positive impact our work has had on policy and in the communities we serve. It will be a huge honour to lead our organisation into its 20th year in 2025, as we navigate the complexities of both persistent and emerging public health challenges.
Outside of work, I am passionate about gardening, hillwalking, and climbing. I also enjoy playing cricket, as well as drums and guitar which sporadically takes the form of a band with other members of HEG.
